To freeze the top row in Google Sheets on a computer, open the spreadsheet, click View > Freeze, and choose to freeze 1 row. The header row then stays visible while you scroll down. To undo it, go back to View > Freeze and click No rows. ProfitDrawer's bookkeeping spreadsheets already freeze the header rows on the Income, Expenses and Mileage tabs, so column titles stay in view as you add entries.
Freeze rows (computer):
- Open the spreadsheet in Google Sheets.
- Select a row (or a cell in it).
- Click View > Freeze.
- Choose how many rows to freeze. For just the header, freeze 1 row; to keep several title rows, freeze up to the row you selected.
Unfreeze: click View > Freeze > No rows (or No columns for columns).
On a phone or tablet: in the Google Sheets app, tap or touch and hold the row number, then tap Freeze (on some devices it sits in the menu behind the arrow).
Freezing columns works the same way, which is useful for keeping a date or name column visible when a sheet is wide.
